Crème Brûlée, or Mud Pie?

Ocean waves, or kiddie pool?
Beach, or box of sand?
Lazy boy, or shaky stool?
Christmas gift so cool…
Or socks so bland?

Roaring fire, or candle flame?
Chess, or Tic-Tac-Toe?
Honey sweet, or aspartame?
Roses fresh for dame…
Or faux?

Disney World, or tourist trap?
Crème brûlée, or mud pie?
Forty winks, or feline nap?
Father’s arms and robes enwrapped…
Or pigsty?*

Vow for life, or “test drive”?
Send a prayer, or “nice thought”?
Joy that lasts, or quick dies?
Trusting Him Who did rise…
Or ego-caught…
A lot afraid…
Until that day the farm’s bought?

*Luke 15

“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea.” -C.S. Lewis
