The “Beatific Vision”? Or worm and flame eternal? (Mk. 9:48)
The intended joy of sainthood? Or rebelhood infernal?
Rejoicing all together? Or gnashing teeth alone? (Lk. 13:28)
God’s paradise regained? Or misery full-blown?
Toward one of two destinies all folks are going
Consider the path that you’re on! What’s it showing?
Is heaven’s light shining through all of your deeds?
The “spade” of repentance uprooting sin’s weeds?
Is Christ living in you to further heav’n’s goals,
The glory of God and salvation of souls?
Do poor and oppressed ones through you find a voice?
Your destiny starts here and now! What’s your choice?

Will we be surprised, or not?
When meeting God above
He says the man we helped by placing
food in his torn glove
Was God’s own self in human form
with every pain thereof (Mt. 25)
‘Twas Christ disguised in reeking rags and
begging for our love (Jn. 19:28)
Will we be surprised, or not?
When meeting Christ the Lord
He gratefully reveals that hidden
‘neath the suff’ring faces
Of folks we visited at home
or psychiatric ward,
‘Twas His own Face! Still pleading from His
Cross in countless places (Col. 1:24)
Will we be surprised, or not?
When meeting Christ our God
We then discover that each soul
We served unshrinkingly
Was His live image: poor, unhoused, un-
fed, unborn, unshod
He’ll look into our eyes and say,
“You did those things for Me” (Mt. 25)
But Christ has also promised that for
Needs we would NOT meet
For folks we would NOT serve (or, at least
pray for with concern)
“What you did not do for these least, you
did not do for me”
At last, the fire of God’s love
Will either thrill… or burn -
One’s heaven could begin today
But hell could start now too
So walk the “narrow road to life” (Mt. 7:14)
The Savior lights for you (Jn. 8:12)
For in the end we’ll make our choice
Of where we want to stay
The Father’s House of Love, or not? (Jn. 14)
On earth, our choice is made
Our entrance into heaven’s gates
Cannot be guaranteed (Heb. 10:26)
No matter what we do or don’t
Christ’s pardon we will need (Eph. 2:8-9)
God’s heaven is a gift, not earned
Unwrapped by love-in-action; prayer;
For heaven is a Person- Christ!
Where He is… heaven’s there (Jn. 15)
Eternal life begins today
When we return His gaze
And Mary’s gaze of love, as wellOur Queen, who for us prays (Jn. 2:3)

[when reading, pause at the commas]
In the end, all that matters
Is not money, is not cars
At life’s close, all that counts is
found in One whocounts the stars (Ps. 147:4)
In this life, all our visions
All our plans, may not happen
All that counts, is the plan of
Him who did notcount the cost (Phil. 2:6)
When at last, all our loved ones
will have passed, made brand new
through their trust, in the Savior (Jn. 3:16)
and His death andrising too (1 Jn. 1:7)
In the end, Christ will conquer
Satan’s ploys, death and loss (1 Jn. 3:8)
Heaven’s joys, will be shared in
by the bearersof His Cross (Mt. 16:24)

Dear Holy Spirit make me holy, not despite but through
My weaknesses, temptations, and mistakes I sadly rue
Come Holy Spirit, sanctify me, not despite but through
My circumstances, which the devil tempts me to eschew
Dear Holy Spirit make me Christlike, not despite but through
The people that intrude, are rude or crude, in rotten mood
Come Holy Spirit purify me, not despite but through
The aches and pains, the devil’s snares… from which my cross, You hew
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Lk. 14:27 -
To listen! Without judgment
To suffer! Without groaning
To pray and hope! Without ceasing
To accept! Without disowning
To serve! With nary a payment
To forgive! With true compassion
To give funding! Without measure
“Where one’s heart is, there’s his treasure” (Mt. 6:21)
To repent of my sin! Confidently
To avoid sin’s “occasions”! Unhesitatingly
To amend my life! Cheerfully
To do penance! Gratefully
To take the last place! Humbly
To be falsely accused! Atoningly
To be misunderstood! Patiently
To be persecuted! Courageously
TO LOVE OTHERS as Christ loves me… -

*****Each painting that soothes us
Or tear-springing tune
Each novel that moves us
Or gem finely hewn
Each smile we treasure
Each animal cute
Each redwood of grandeur
Or color-splashed fruit
Each sunset fantastic
Or moonrise of glory
All mountains majestic
But tell half the story
Those times we catch sight of
Some marvel and stare
Each song that enchants us
So gripping, yet fair
We find that it wounds us
And leaves us still yearning
A presence, yet absence
That quells not the churning
All visions eye-drenching
Explode, then expire
Our heart’s thirst unquenching
Our souls more require
Beneath such brief beauties
Beneath, yet above
The Bridegroom-Creator
Soft-whispers His love
With gifts, He pursues us
This Lover untiring
With loveliness woos us (1)
T’ward joy unexpiring*****

Thank you Jesus, source of all beauty;
reason and inspiration for the co-creation of this beauty;
sustainer of this beauty and enabler of our perception of it!
O Lord, to whom this beauty points as a sign,
may all created, temporary beauty draw us to You,
O Uncreated, Eternal, and Beautiful One…
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Cor. 2:9) -
“It’s not what you do, it’s
who you’re with” is a
Phrase our dad often will say
With rollicking friends, the
boringest chore, can soon
Feel like a holiday
With family dear,
A grey rainy day, can turn
Into a party- HEY HEY!
With strangers around, some
Joy can be found in shared
Sunsets, and hiking, and play
“It’s not what you do, it’s
Who you’re with”! For the
Folks God has g’ven us- HOORAY! -

I think ’bout my mom
I don’t doubt that she’s close
But now she feels far, oh! so far
Some try to console:
“She is much closer now”
“Love’s ties don’t unravel at death”
Is she someWHERE else?
No, rather someHOW else
Since in God, connected to all
Yet I still miss her
When visiting places
With mem’ries: words, looks, embraces
I’m thankful for all
Her beautiful features
Her love for all of God’s creatures
Fruits from her garden
Her generous spirit
Would grow smiles on faces she shared with
Generosity
She modeled for us all
Op’ning home and heart to children
Not just us; all kids
Held a place in her heart
Defending fiercely “the least ones”
Grandkids her delight
Her love for them spread joy
To all within ear and eye-shot
A last word she gave
“Do not forget the poor”
Seared as a tattoo on my heart
And a last gesture
Kisses blown, waved to me
Her love overflowed at all times
She’d hand with a smile,
“You deserve a medal!”
Spreading her deep love for Mary
What I learned the most
From her was not through words
But through love’s deeds inspiring me
The character traits
I cherished within her
Were Christ’s own traits shining through her
What do I ask most?
Faith? Peace? Hope? I think hope
Hope to soon see and be with her
But not just with her
Also with those she loves
Espec’lly the One Who IS love
To grieve is to heal
Tears- bitter, yet soothing
Does God cry with me? Feel my ache?
Christ wept at the death
Of Lazarus His friend
Crying with Martha and Mary
Then He raised him up
Promised to raise him again
To raise mom for her faith in Him
Her love is not idle
Her concern: our salvation
Praying for us and our struggles
Thank you dear mother
For teaching and showing
When, where, why, how, and who to love
Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace. Amen.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. -

Each loved one that we miss
Come visit in each Mass
We meet the saints and angels there
Around the Altar-table, where
We pray with those who’ve passedNo closer can we be
To loved ones now at rest
Than in His Eucharistic Gaze
The simple Host, our sight betrays
And hides a Humble GuestHis Body makes us whole
His Blood our passions quell
And where His Sacred Head is now
Are found His members, who resound
His rescuing from hellBeyond the veil of bread
Through lenses of His grace
I see the face of Christ my Lord
And souls who while on earth adored
Within His warm embrace*****
Blessed Luigi and Maria Beltrame Quattrocchi are a married couple on their way to canonization. Heartbroken by Luigi’s passing, Maria was able to write a few months later: “Luigi is always and incessantly the love and inconsolable sorrow of each and all of us, yet he helps us, he is near to us, and he loves us as much and even more, if it is possible, than before. Little by little, he is present to me ever more, most of all, at Communion, before the altar.”
Regarding the background of Beyond the Eucharistic Veil, I wrote it after my mother Barbara passed in 2023. It was inspired by a comment my household brother shared with me in college (Franciscan University of Steubenville). He told me that after his sister died at age 17, He would find her in the adoration chapel, in the Sacred Host, recalling that if his sister was with and in Jesus, then she there in the Eucharistic Host. Christ the Head is connected to every member of His Body, the Church. Eucharistic Adoration and Mass brought him consolation in his grief, as it does for me today.
